About the position

The School Counselor - Elementary position at Santa Fe Public Schools involves developing and implementing a comprehensive school counseling and guidance program that aligns with the district's mission and goals. The counselor will provide academic, career, and personal/social guidance to elementary school students, integrating the ASCA National Model. Responsibilities include delivering classroom guidance lessons, referring students to resources, and supporting student success and achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the elementary school counseling and guidance program.
  • Delivers structured developmental grade-level guidance curriculum that aligns with the ASCA National Standards.
  • Provides data-driven interventions and strategies for student academic, career, and personal/social needs.
  • Provides academic guidance to elementary school students.
  • Develops and implements grade-level career interest/life planning/college awareness activities.
  • Provides personal and social support to students and parents.
  • Facilitates appropriate referrals to community mental health agencies and support services.
  • Participates in Wellness Team and Crisis/Safety Team.
  • Serves on school and community committees addressing the needs of youth.
  • Assists with problem solving on student needs.
  • Attends relevant IEP, SAT, RTI, 504 meetings.
  • Models and encourages awareness and respect for the cultural diversity of students, families, and staff.
  • Maintains current New Mexico School Counselor license and professional membership in the American School Counselor Association or New Mexico School Counselor Association.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Counseling with 15 graduate hours in School Counseling.
  • Current School Counselor License from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Working Knowledge of ASCA National Model.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience working with the ASCA National Model.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: Tier 2 License: $60,000+, Tier 3 License: $70,000+
  • May increase with verified years of relevant experience/education.
