About the position
The Teacher - Band (0.2 FTE) position at Amy Biehl Community School involves teaching approved SFPS curriculum to students of all abilities, promoting musical growth, and providing appropriate musical activities. The teacher will provide instruction in instrumental pedagogy, musical concepts, theory, history, and performance etiquette. This role requires a commitment to fostering a productive environment for music education and involves participation in state, regional, and district-sponsored festivals and performance events.
Responsibilities
- Participates in state, regional, and district-sponsored festivals and competitive/performance events.
- Conducts site-based and public performances.
- Promotes an environment conducive to productive performance in music education.
- Communicates effectively with the school principal and music coordinator.
- Attends monthly music district meetings set by the music coordinator.
- Instructs and plans for the band program at assigned locations during the nine-month contract.
- Ensures adequate supervision of students.
- Establishes and maintains rapport with students.
- Motivates students to achieve maximum potential.
- Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support diverse student populations.
- Complies with and supports school regulations and policies.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Recruits and retains students for participation in the band program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in music education or equivalent with emphasis on instrumental music.
- NM state certification required with music endorsement.

- At least one year's previous teaching experience.
