The Administrative Supervisor reports directly to the Administrative Director of Nursing and assists in the identification, solving of problems related to patient care and organizational issues, and oversees bed planning activities. The Administrative Supervisor is a resource person, acting in an administrative capacity in the absence of the hospital department managers, and has the authority to make administrative decisions for the organization in the absence of department managers and hospital administration. The Administrative Supervisor is pro-active in managing capacity and patient flow, monitors surgery schedule and ED volume for planning, works directly with physicians to complete admissions and discharges promptly and with staff to facilitate discharge timeliness and bed turnover times. Uses High Census protocol to activate additional resources. Remains calm and professional when dealing with difficult customer situations, has an ability to de-escalate situations and listen objectively to assist in resolving issues, and provides the highest level of customer service. Must be able to direct clinical staff in support of Code responses. Is a vital member of the team with the understanding that covering sick calls and time off requests within the department is a team responsibility.
