Advanced Software Engineer

About the position

As a Software Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will perform software requirements analysis, participate in research and design, and develop and test software and tools. Your role will involve inventing new products or enhancing existing applications, placing your talent front and center in creating solutions that redefine innovation for the world. This position is fully on-site at our San Jose, CA facility, and you will be part of a collaborative team that works across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Perform software requirements analysis.
• Participate in research and design.
• Develop and test software and tools.
• Invent new products or enhance existing applications.
• Lead the software development process.
• Apply technical standards and methodologies to solve challenges creatively.
• Collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines (HW/SW/Systems).
• Provide technical leadership and position others for success.
• Communicate effectively and negotiate to meet challenging customer requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.
• 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience.
• Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance required at time of hire.
• U.S. citizenship required due to the nature of work.
• Agile experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Qt/C++ in a Linux environment.
• Experience with RDBMS (relational database management system).
• User Interface development experience.
• Experience with containerization and virtualization.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
• Thorough knowledge of technology trends and willingness to champion new ideas.
