About the position

The Department of Marketing in the Sam M. Walton College of Business is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Marketing (Open Rank). Candidates should demonstrate the potential to publish in top-tier academic journals and contribute meaningfully to the field of marketing research. In addition to maintaining an active research agenda, the successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, mentor Ph.D. students, and engage in service activities at the Department, College, and University levels, consistent with the rank. Opportunities may also be available to teach graduate courses and participate in Executive Education programs. The Walton College is the largest college at the University of Arkansas, and Marketing is its second-largest undergraduate major. The Department offers a B.S.B.A. in Marketing, a Master of Science in Marketing with a focus on brand management, and a Ph.D. in Marketing. Students benefit from the department's strong industry connections, including collaborations with Walmart, J.B. Hunt Transport Inc., Sam's Club, Tyson Foods, and other major companies headquartered in Northwest Arkansas. The department emphasizes two strategic initiatives: strategic retail and professional sales. It hosts a retail shopper marketing brand challenge and one of the largest internal sales competitions in the country, with partners such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Tyson Foods, General Mills, Kimberly-Clark, International Paper, Hormel, Kraft Heinz Co., NielsenIQ, Procter & Gamble, Saatchi & Saatchi X, and Nestlé. The department also works closely with the Retail Advisory Board to drive curriculum innovation and programming. Additionally, the department is a member of the Southeast Marketing Symposium (SMS), participating in and hosting an annual event that brings together faculty and doctoral students from 11 leading institutions across the Southeastern U.S. Graduates of the department's Ph.D. program have secured placements at institutions such as LSU, Villanova University, University of Mississippi, Colorado State University, Portland State University, Wayne State University, and Clemson University, among others. As of Fall 2025, the department includes 25 full-time faculty members and 5-6 doctoral students in residence. Tenure-track and tenured faculty are active scholars who regularly publish in top-tier marketing journals. Several faculty members have received distinguished research and teaching awards from the Walton College. Northwest Arkansas (NWA) is consistently ranked among the top 10 places to live in the U.S. The region includes the connected communities of Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville, nestled near the Boston and Ouachita Mountains. NWA offers a 40-mile paved Razorback Greenway for walking, running, and biking, as well as lakes, rivers, waterfalls, farmers markets, museums, theaters, restaurants, and more. Regular on-campus availability, in-person teaching, and active contribution to the life of the department, including exhibiting respect and cooperation in shared academic and administrative tasks are essential duties.
