About the position

The Director of Athletics, either directly or through the proper delegation of authority, provides leadership in planning, and the development, coordination, and evaluation of the district's athletic program and the Health, Physical Education, and Driver Education department.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the District at meetings of the NJSIAA and other athletic conferences which South Brunswick participates in.
  • Develop, plan and implement rules and regulations governing the operations of athletic events.
  • Mentor all members of the coaching staff to ensure professional growth and development of all staff members.
  • Recruit, evaluate and recommend candidates to the principal for the coaching positions.
  • Establish and promulgate appropriate standards of conduct for all coaches.
  • Manage all selling and collecting of tickets and funds for the Board of Education.
  • Recruit Coaches.
  • Evaluate athletic staff performance (Secretaries, ATC's and Coaches).
  • Recommend appointments.
  • Hold seasonal coaches meetings.
  • Distribute all athletic information to all members of the athletic staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Building and Grounds to ensure that all fields and playing areas are well maintained.
  • Provides leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive health/physical education/driver education programs for the district.
  • Develops short and long-range plans for maintaining and improving physical education programs.
  • Responsible for the writing of programs and curriculum based on research and student needs.
  • Ensures quality instruction, coordination, and continuity of health/physical education/driver education curriculum.
  • Provides professional development, training, and resources for staff and students pertaining to the health and safety of the student experience and physical well-being.
  • Schedule athletic practices.
  • Coordinate with school facilities.
  • Schedule officials, staff management workers, and police officers.
  • Arrange for transportation needs grades K through 12 athletic events.
  • Prepare an annual budget to order supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure each program maintains an equipment inventory.
  • Develop a uniform replacement program.
  • Coordinate with the Business Administrator to handle the facilities scheduler.
  • Manage the Pay-to-Participate program.
  • Manage the facilities and the security needs for home and visiting teams as well as spectators.
  • Implement and comply with the rules of Title IX and Title VI.
  • Arrange the 'What We Have Achieved' program for the Board of Education, seasonal awards and NCAA signing celebrations.
  • Supervise the outdoor Snack Shack for fall football games, and the indoor Snack Shack for winter season games.
  • Coordinate facility scheduling and usage for all Marching Band and Winter Guard rehearsals, practices, and events.
  • Maintain end-of-season items: scores for contests, records, honors and awards.
  • Work cooperatively with all community agencies involved in the student athletics programs.
  • Communicate with staff, parents and other members of the community concerning matters related to student athletics.
  • Work cooperatively with the Student Council to create and encourage a 'Viking Spirit at all school events'.
  • Serve as the administrative liaison with all of the booster and support groups associated with the various high school teams.
  • Maintain and hold students, staff and spectators accountable for the highest level of sportsmanlike behavior.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the High School Principal or the Superintendent of Schools.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in athletics.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Supervisor, Administrator or Principal certificate.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the organization and administration of a district level athletic program.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under time sensitive demands.
  • Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.
