About the position

The Athletics Director reports to the Vice-President for College Programs and leads the operation of all intercollegiate athletics programs. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the college's mission and the philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics, as well as the ability to provide a clear vision for the athletics program that aligns with the college's strategic plan. The Athletics Director will collaborate with various departments to recruit student-athletes, promote academic success, and manage the athletic department with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and appreciate the mission of the college and the philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics.
  • Provide a clear vision of the role and mission of the athletics program that supports the college's overall mission and strategic plan.
  • Serve on the College Programs Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with the Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid to develop the best plan for recruiting student-athletes.
  • Establish an environment that promotes student success and integrates athletics into the broader educational mission of the college.
  • Establish strong working relationships with faculty and College Programs staff.
  • Manage the athletic department with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Work with the Office of Institutional Advancement to implement a plan for effective athletics fundraising.
  • Coordinate with the Chair of the Nutrition, Health, and Human Performance department for supervision and scheduling of PE and athletic facilities.
  • Serve as the faculty instructor of record for the PED 470 intercollegiate athletics activity course.
  • Submit the Meredith College Athletics Annual Report and the program's annual Continuous Improvement Report.
  • Develop a strategic plan for the athletics department.
  • Review and provide regular updates to the student-athlete handbook and staff policy and procedure manual.
  • Attend AD Council meetings for the USA South Athletic Conference.
  • Oversee a multi-faceted athletics budget.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and retain coaches and support staff.
  • Serve as the direct report for head coaches and athletics administrative staff.
  • Complete annual staff performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Develop and monitor a maintenance plan for athletics facilities.
  • Oversee the management of the Meredith College Athletics Sports Medicine program.
  • Confer with the Director of the Office of Campus Events regarding facility scheduling.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to promote Meredith Athletics.
  • Advise and represent the department in the administration of the annual Meredith College Golf Classic.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the Meredith Athletics Hall of Fame and its selection committee.
  • Attend and assist with the organization of the annual Halo Awards Ceremony.
  • Provide and prioritize recommendations for Avenging Angels Club projects.
  • Attend intercollegiate athletic contests as necessary.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, and Meredith College policies.
  • Assign and oversee the athletics program NCAA DEI designee.
  • Complete the annual NCAA Financial Expense Report.
  • Serve as the voting delegate for the annual NCAA Convention.
  • Meet regularly with the college President and Athletic Direct Report.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education, sport management, athletic administration or related field required.
  • Extensive experience in college athletics including at the senior management level.
  • Demonstrated record of successful athletic administrative experience.
  • Working knowledge of the NCAA and the ability to recognize issues within DIII that impact Meredith College.
  • Commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.
  • Experience in facilities oversight and planning, budget management and strategic planning.
  • Proven leadership and management skills based on the department's core values.
  • Strong judgement in decision-making and character assessment when recruiting and hiring.
  • Ability to develop a cooperative and supportive work environment.
  • Experience partnering with Offices of Institutional Advancement and Alumnae Relations.
  • Readiness to embrace the traditions of Meredith College and the history of Meredith Athletics.
