About the position

We're looking for a Director of Product to lead the integration of commerce experiences into PayPal’s conversational search interface. This is a zero-to-one role at the intersection of AI, commerce, and platform strategy — ideal for a resourceful product leader who can define the vision, prioritize ruthlessly, and build scalable systems for partner content, discovery, and monetization. You'll work closely with engineering, design, and partnerships to bring shoppable moments to life through AI-driven interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a shared vision across the company for one or more products with a deliberate and cohesive strategy.
  • Leads product strategy development, and develops a clear, executable view of the product strategy with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Influences the architectural roadmap and balances innovative design and technical implementation, while balancing regulatory requirements, time-to-market, meeting customer needs and product profitability.
  • Champions the customer experience and prioritizes customer needs in product requirements and decision making.
  • Defines and uses metrics that inform the success of products including usability studies, research and market analysis.
  • Standardizes workstreams to include analytics, customer discovery, market research and competitive analysis to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Responsible for product profitability, including budgetary decisions.
  • Leads operational mechanisms that drive execution and accountability including Product Reviews, Operating Reviews, and Business Reviews.
  • Interfaces with senior leadership as needed.
  • Leads a cross-function team, partnering with global partners including content strategists, data scientists, product designers and user experience researchers.
  • Maximizes efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the standard.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience.
  • 8+ years of product management experience, including time spent on commerce, search, or platform integration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with LLM-based products and architectures, including the fundamentals of RAG systems and their application to commerce discovery.
  • Proven ability to lead in ambiguous, zero-to-one environments — defining strategy, driving alignment, and executing with urgency.
  • Strong product instincts with an ability to simplify complex problems, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and focus on high-leverage opportunities.
  • Experience building and launching partner-facing tools (e.g. structured feed ingestion, onboarding flows, integration health dashboards).
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills; adept at navigating cross-functional dynamics and influencing across levels.
  • Analytical mindset; comfortable interpreting experiment results and behavioral data to inform decision-making.

Nice-to-haves

  • Own product vision, strategy, and execution for integrating commerce solutions into PayPal’s emerging conversational search experience, powered by LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) methods.
  • Define and prioritize a phased roadmap balancing foundational infrastructure, early partner integrations, and quick user-facing wins.
  • Develop scalable integration models for structured commerce content (e.g. feeds, APIs, availability, pricing) with appropriate fallback logic for aggregator-based inventory.
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, applied science, and partnerships to ship experiences that are context-aware, brand-safe, and conversion-optimized.
  • Shape the taxonomy, ranking logic, and UX patterns for embedding shoppable content within search results and conversational flows.
  • Guide test-and-learn cycles to validate hypotheses, drive performance improvements, and refine the balance between utility and monetization.
  • Establish success metrics and instrumentation to measure engagement, revenue impact, and partner contribution.
  • Stay current on developments in AI interfaces, RAG architectures, vector search, and commerce enablement platforms.

Benefits

  • Flexible work environment
  • Employee shares options
  • Health and life insurance
  • Commitment to building an equitable and inclusive global economy
