About The Position

Residential Solar Director of Operations Position Summary The Residential & Storage Director of Operations leads and optimizes all residential operational functions across Design, Project Management, Administration, and Installation. This senior leadership role drives operational excellence through disciplined processes, data-driven decision-making, strong cross-functional leadership, and a relentless focus on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability. This leader partners closely with Sales, Finance, and Senior Leadership to align operational capacity with strategic growth objectives while building scalable and flexible systems to support continued adaptation of the residential business unit. Key Outcomes & Impact Success in this role will be measured by the ability to: Improve productivity, efficiency, and gross margin across operational teams Establish and manage clear KPIs tied to safety, quality, profitability, and throughput Build flexible systems that support growth without sacrificing service quality Strengthen cross-functional alignment between Operations, Sales, and Finance Develop high-performing teams with strong accountability and engagement --------------------------------------------------------------------

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or related business administration experience
  • 3+ years of senior leadership experience in operations or related function
  • Proven success leading cross-functional operational teams
  • Strong knowledge of finance, production, customer service, and workforce management
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable / flexible operational processes
  • Experience managing performance through KPIs and data analysis
  • Strong understanding of industry regulations and safety standards
  • 2-5 years of experience in the construction/electrical industry

  • 2–5 years of experience in the solar industry
  • Experience developing budgets and business plans
  • Demonstrated success improving productivity and operational efficiency
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience using ERP, CRM, or business management software to track performance metrics.
  • Netsuite experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership & Team Development Build and sustain a culture of integrity, accountability, inclusion, safety, and performance Lead, mentor, and develop managers across Design, Project Management, and Installation Partner with Human Resources to recruit, onboard, and retain high-performing talent Drive performance management processes including coaching, evaluations, corrective actions, and recognition Ensure optimal staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning to meet demand
  • Operational Excellence & Process Improvement Establish, monitor, and report KPIs related to productivity, safety, quality, and financial performance Design and implement scalable systems to improve workflow, communication, and reporting Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs Develop flexible resource planning models to manage fluctuations in demand Communicate operational capacity and constraints to inform sales strategy Develop new operational capabilities as market conditions evolve
  • Financial Performance & Risk Management Own revenue and margin performance across residential Design, PM, and Installation functions Partner with Finance/Controller on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning Develop strategies to grow the residential business while protecting margins Identify and mitigate operational and financial risks Collaborate with Inventory Management to optimize purchasing, utilization, and data accuracy
  • Subcontractor & Partner Management Establish and negotiate subcontractor agreements Monitor subcontractor performance in coordination with Project Managers Develop strategic subcontractor relationships in non-core operational areas Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and customer standards Facilitate strong relationships with AHJs, permitting authorities, inspectors, and interconnection entities
  • Customer Experience & Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards Resolve escalated customer and subcontractor issues, including field incidents Proactively communicate operational issues and implement corrective actions Drive initiatives that improve customer experience and service quality
  • Strategic & Professional Development Contribute to long-term operational planning and growth strategy Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices Participate in professional organizations and continuing education
