About the position

Amentum is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join our team of passionate individuals in Hanover, MD. In this role, you will support challenging, mission-critical projects that make a direct impact on the Nation's security and intelligence mission. Our contract supports more than 12 efforts with varying levels of hardware and software development requirements. Our projects are focused on front end equipment configuration/maintenance, back-end repositories, front end dashboards, as well as everything in between for the full data processing thread. Our teams can range from one to two developers to a team of 12. All of our teams work right alongside our customer to discuss requirements, identify solutions, and choose the way forward for implementation. The team that this position supports is a total of nine personnel, including the candidate. This team is responsible for a large enterprise knowledge base application, with an Oracle database supporting it. The team works together to ensure application requirements are met from both a software development aspect, but working with the database administrator for integration requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based upon documented requirements.
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features.
  • Debug existing software and correct defects.
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.
  • Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
  • Make recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.

Requirements

  • One or more year of Java programming experience or development of presentation tiers.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and Spring is desired.
  • Experience with JSP and servlet programming.
  • Experience with JEE and enterprise web application design and development.
  • Experience designing and writing REST-ful applications.
  • Ability to create and deploy applications in an Apache Tomcat web server.
  • Experience programming on Linux platforms.
  • Experience using one or more of the following revision control applications: git, Subversion (SVN), CVS, ClearCase.
  • Familiarity with Perl, Oracle, MySQL, and/or PL/SQL.
  • Must have active TS/SCI with Poly.
  • No experience required if you have a bachelor's degree in a technical field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline, or an additional 4 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Project and Visio.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong critical thinking, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with bash programming.
