About The Position

The Cybersecurity Engineer – Lead supports HII’s Integrated Training Systems – Systems Engineering (ITS‑SE) program by overseeing cybersecurity engineering activities across Navy training system projects. In this role, you will lead a team of eight cybersecurity professionals responsible for security engineering, assessment, authorization, and compliance efforts that protect mission‑critical training systems. You will work directly with government stakeholders daily to ensure secure system designs, successful accreditation, and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity requirements. Impact Your leadership directly contributes to Fleet readiness and mission assurance. By guiding cybersecurity engineers, collaborating with government customers, and ensuring systems meet DoD security standards, you help safeguard training capabilities relied upon by U.S. Navy operators. Your work ensures that systems are accredited, secure, and ready for operational deployment.

Requirements

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; OR
  • 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; OR
  • 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD and Navy cybersecurity requirements, including the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Experience preparing cybersecurity accreditation packages and required documentation (SSP, POA&M, SAR, etc.).
  • Ability to lead technical teams and oversee multiple concurrent cybersecurity tasks.
  • Knowledge of system security engineering practices, including secure configuration, vulnerability analysis, and mitigation strategies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to brief leadership and interact with government customers daily.
  • Ability to coordinate with cross‑functional engineering teams and prioritize task execution.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools, security controls, and security testing methods.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance (or be able to obtain one).
  • IAT II certification preferred (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+).

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering preferred.
  • CISSP or another IAM II level or higher certification preferred.
  • Experience leading or mentoring cybersecurity engineers or technical teams.
  • Experience leading cybersecurity efforts for Navy or DoD training, simulation, or shipboard systems.
  • Experience with RMF tools, eMASS (Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service), ACAS scanning, STIG checklists, or similar cybersecurity tools.
  • Experience supporting A&A (Assessment & Authorization) activities for complex systems.
  • Experience working in highly collaborative, integrated engineering teams.
  • Ability to work in office, laboratory, or training system test environments.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for customer meetings or system assessments.
  • Ability to carry testing equipment or documentation materials as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and oversee the work of an 8‑person cybersecurity engineering team supporting ITS‑SE.
  • Serve as the primary cybersecurity point of contact for government stakeholders; coordinate with customers daily on cybersecurity activities, risks, plans, and deliverables.
  • Develop, review, and maintain cybersecurity documentation including System Security Plans (SSPs), Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and related artifacts.
  • Coordinate Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities including categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, and continuous monitoring.
  • Ensure security controls are implemented correctly and producing expected outcomes.
  • Support security architecture design reviews and technical assessments for Navy training systems.
  • Guide vulnerability remediation activities, track compliance, and ensure closure of findings.
  • Conduct or supervise cybersecurity testing, scans, and security assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with systems engineers, software developers, configuration managers, and program leadership.
  • Ensure cybersecurity engineering processes follow DoD, Navy, and program‑specific requirements.
