The Banking Technology organization provides strategy and technology partnership to Charles Schwab Bank. Our strategy and technology partnership ensures the delivery of a best-in-class set of applications selected and designed to support key banking production and services for our clients. The application portfolio is a combination of SaaS and in-house developed applications. Our technology is a key foundation for internal system integration, front-end customers, regulatory, and reporting capabilities. This position will be responsible for delivering high quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing delivery environment. We are currently in the process of designing the next iteration of our platform to support current and future business capabilities that will delight our customers with a target of starting core development early next year. It's an exciting time to join this team and be involved in building the next chapter of our platform that is crucial for the firm. As a Lead Java Engineer you will be the technical lead on cross-team strategic Java engineering efforts to influence decision and alignment while understanding several teams' testing strategies and using knowledge to educate and participate in strategic planning discussions with technical, business, and various stakeholders. You will design effective solutions that are in line with the organization's vision and actively participate in product design and development sessions to understand the needs of the business, conduct research on potential options and recommend optimal solution based on context. You will also design effective solutions that are in line with the organization's vision while supporting teams on critical production issues and providing coaching, mentorship, and career development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-team strategic Java engineering efforts.
  • Influence decision and alignment among teams.
  • Understand and educate on testing strategies.
  • Participate in strategic planning discussions with stakeholders.
  • Design effective solutions aligned with the organization's vision.
  • Participate in product design and development sessions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related degree, OR related practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in developing large scale software using Java, Spring framework, cloud development, and Web Services.
  • 6+ years of experience working with containers and microservices in the cloud.
  • 6+ years of experience in cloud deployment in a CI/CD model.
  • 2+ years of experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), AWS, or GCP.
  • 2+ years of experience working with databases like MongoDB, Aerospike, and/or PostgreSQL.
  • 2+ years of experience in IT Transformations and system modernization initiatives.
  • Track record of maintaining high quality while delivering on tight schedules.
  • Collaborative mindset with a bias for action.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage subject matter experts and understand technical topics.
  • Demonstrated ability to disagree and argue your case with data.
  • Demonstrated ability in solution discovery and crafting designs based on engineering principles.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems creatively.
  • Track record of mentoring and coaching.

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related degree, OR related practical experience.
