About the position

As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer NPI you will be responsible for leading the introduction of new product, variants, projects and processes to all manufacturing and operations activities. Serve as a key liaison for the Operations team for all actions related to manufacturing issues, documentation, cost reduction, and process improvements. You will interface with production, engineering, quality, safety, service and technology on New Product Introduction using the Smiths Product Lifecycle Process. As the owner of continuous improvement projects for the operations department you will drive LEAN culture focusing on standardization, quality, improved performance and increased throughput and production standards.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, improves manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, mechanical and electrical principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Key contact with Technology for New Product Introduction through the Product Lifecycle Process.
  • Leading activities such as Design for Manufacture, pFMEA, Capacity Analyses, Capital Requirements, Product Routing definition and change management efforts.
  • Representation for operations department at all NPI Gate review meetings, providing technical and process knowledge where needed.
  • Use a data driven approach to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.
  • Implement, maintain, and improve current manufacturing processes, including equipment, documentation, training, gages and tooling/fixtures.
  • Implement corrective actions to resolve manufacturing process problems through testing, evaluation, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability process.
  • Plan, specify, select, validate, and implement new equipment, processes, and facilities in manufacturing.
  • Engage with the appropriate personnel in the identification and resolution of Corrective/Preventative actions.
  • Refine, Develop & Implement current and future SOP work instructions, routings, BOM, test procedures and master process documents.
  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment/workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Report and improve all operational process KPIs.
  • Support deployment of the Smiths Excellence System.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent field).
  • 5 or more years of direct manufacturing experience.
  • Six Sigma Lean Certification preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.
  • PMP Certification or experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
