About The Position

We are an independent Pre K-8 school dedicated to educating the whole child through strong relationships, academic excellence, and an engaging, student-centered learning environment. We are seeking a passionate Learning Specialist to join our collaborative and supportive faculty team. The Learning Specialist provides targeted academic support and learning strategy instruction for students in Pre K-8 who demonstrate learning differences, academic challenges, or executive functioning needs. This role works closely with faculty, administration, and families to support success through individualized instruction, consultation, and appropriate accommodations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; background in education, special education, reading instruction, educational therapy, or a related field preferred
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students in an academic or learning support setting
  • Knowledge of child development, learning differences, and attention challenges
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Training in Orton-Gillingham or other Science of Reading-aligned structured literacy approach (e.g., Wilson, LETRS, or comparable certification) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, study skills, and organization, and executive functioning through individualized and small-group academic support
  • Provide structured literacy lessons and literacy intervention using multisensory (kinesthetics, tactile, auditory, and visual), explicit, and systematic instruction aligned with the Science of Reading
  • Support students in accessing and progressing with Mason Preparatory School’s curriculum
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers on implementing instructional strategies and accommodations and serve as a resource on learning differences and student support strategies
  • Communicate regularly with teachers and parents regarding student progress and support plans
  • Conduct classroom observations and assist with academic screenings or assessments as appropriate
  • Interpret evaluation data to guide instruction and support plans
  • Develop and maintain individualized student learning plans and confidential progress records
  • Implement discipline policies with fairness and consistency.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Actively participate in school life, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Comply with all Mason Preparatory School policies and procedures as outlined in faculty, student, and employee handbooks.
