About The Position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN / LPN) will provide patient care in a Gastrointestinal Overflow Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit. This unit supports patients who require medical-surgical level care and monitoring in an overflow capacity. The nurse will assist with patient monitoring, medication administration, and routine clinical procedures while collaborating with Registered Nurses (RN) and physicians to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in a Medical Surgical setting.
• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license .
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Ability to provide safe and effective care for adult patients in a hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to adult patients in a Medical Surgical / Telemetry setting.
• Monitor and document patient vital signs , intake and output, and overall patient condition.
• Administer medications including oral, intramuscular (IM), and subcutaneous (SQ) medications as prescribed.
• Perform blood glucose monitoring and testing .
• Assist with feeding tube care and management , including Nasogastric Tube (NG Tube) and Gastrostomy Tube (G-Tube).
• Perform Foley catheter insertion for both male and female patients.
• Assist with oxygen administration using nasal cannula and oxygen face masks.
• Provide hygiene and comfort care including bathing (bed, tub, shower, sitz) and mouth care .
• Assist patients with ambulation and mobility as appropriate.
• Participate in patient admissions and transfers .
• Communicate patient condition updates to the Registered Nurse (RN) or Medical Doctor (MD) .
• Follow infection control protocols including isolation precautions .
• Use SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication for patient handoffs and transfers.
• Float to other Medical Surgical units within skillset based on facility needs.
