About the position

The Hilton Austin Airport is looking for a Bartender to provide exceptional service in our busy hotel lobby bar. The Hilton has been recently renovated and is located in the historic Air Force command building right on Austin-Bergstrom International Airport property. We’re proud to be Austin’s gateway full-service hotel. Our guests are our most important asset. Involvement, teamwork, and commitment are the values that govern our work. This position provides service of food and beverage in the restaurant/bar area. This role requires you to adhere to the hotel and brand standards. You will also be required to be friendly, courteous, helpful, timely, and professional, always offering our guest a high level of satisfaction. Bartenders play a pivotal role in the hospitality industry, blending technical skill with customer service to create memorable experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages accurately
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines
  • Create and suggest new cocktails based on trends and customer preferences
  • Ensure drinks are visually appealing with proper garnishes
  • Greet guests warmly and take orders efficiently
  • Recommend drinks and upsell specials
  • Handle difficult or intoxicated customers professionally
  • Foster a welcoming and engaging atmosphere
  • Process payments accurately using point-of-sale systems
  • Manage tabs and ensure correct billing
  • Handle cash responsibly and reconcile transactions
  • Maintain a clean and organized bar area
  • Sanitize tools, glassware, and surfaces regularly
  • Comply with health and safety regulations
  • Check IDs to ensure legal drinking age compliance
  • Monitor customer alcohol consumption
  • Refuse service when necessary to ensure safety
  • Stay certified in programs like TABC and ServSafe
  • Restock liquor, mixers, and supplies
  • Track inventory and report shortages
  • Maintain and operate bar equipment
  • Prepare the bar for opening and closing
  • Collaborate with servers, kitchen staff, and management
  • Handle emergencies or unexpected situations calmly

Requirements

  • Knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and coworkers
  • Ability to memorize the bar and restaurant menu, specials of the day and special promotions
  • Ability to provide information and answer questions
  • Ability to use arithmetic to check totals, make change, count bank, etc.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for varying lengths of time, often long periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Requires manual dexterity
  • Ability to work in a noisy, demanding, and physical environment with fluctuating adverse temperatures
  • Frequent reaching, twisting, bending, stooping, walking, standing, handling, and smiling
