About the position

This position is for an experienced leader who is responsible for overseeing the performance of a team of platform engineers while driving technical strategy across our software stack, with particular focus on mobile-hybrid and frontend frameworks. The role involves managing high-performing teams, ensuring the delivery of sound features, and contributing to a culture of success within the organization. The ideal candidate will balance perfectionism with pragmatism while guiding the teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a small team and is accountable for decision-making of daily activities, ensuring team execution and removing blockers.
  • Experience handling difficult conversations, managing through disagreements, and communicating effectively with the team.
  • Can articulate technical concepts in a clear, concise manner, that is easily understandable by technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading a team through unfamiliar situations. Serves as change champion for new initiatives.
  • Learns quickly when faced with new problems in own area of work; understands and synthesizes more complex, broader problems.
  • Sometimes proactively experiments to find solutions; tolerates uncertainty.
  • Views own and other successes and mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Aligns skill sets appropriately to the problem to enable better problem-solving.
  • Helps define problems in collaboration with other stakeholders before moving into solution-generation. Identifies possible pitfalls in various solutions.
  • Experience working with a small team setting goals, managing workers and workload, and providing supervision.
  • Mentors team members by providing feedback and seeks to remove blockers and often takes the lead on projects and initiatives.
  • Managing sprint planning and execution, including breaking down complex technical requirements, estimating effort, and balancing new feature development with technical debt.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define technical requirements and timelines, translating business needs into technical specifications.
  • Lead and optimize the software development pipeline by identifying performance bottlenecks, implementing robust code review processes, establishing comprehensive testing strategies, enhancing system observability, and ensuring production readiness of all deployments.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meeting with team members to provide mentorship, career development guidance, and actionable performance feedback.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing, inclusive team culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Oversee maintenance of a sustainable engineering platform while also shipping features at a regular pace.
  • Ensure production applications are stable and operating as expected.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of engineering experience.
  • This is a first level people manager role requiring the ability to learn to develop and mentor a team.
  • Up to three years' experience of progressive responsibility as an engineer on development teams directly responsible for building and delivering software intensive systems.
  • Exposure to technology and management principles involved in planning, organizational change management, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership techniques, and coordination of people.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Excellent communications.
