About the position

Founded in Santa Clara County in 1928, Goodwill of Silicon Valley is dedicated to improving employment opportunities, increasing standards of living, providing economic independence, and restoring our clients’ sense of self-worth. With 18 retail stores, an online store, an extensive reuse/recycling operation, and our Contract Services division, we help individuals overcome barriers to employment, build sustainable lives and communities. Goodwill of Silicon Valley’s Marketing Assistant possesses marketing, social media, administrative, project management, and communication skills. They must be knowledgeable in business functions and regulations, and capable of decision-making and problem-solving. This role supports marketing initiatives that promote our retail operations, fundraising events, and community outreach. The ideal candidate is passionate about storytelling, retail trends, and making a positive impact.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing marketing campaigns to support both Donated Goods Retail (DGR) business units as well as our mission programs
  • Assist in creating and scheduling content for social media, email newsletters, and other digital platforms
  • Help maintain and update the organization’s website and online store
  • Support the design and production of marketing materials (flyers, signage, donor materials)
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as engagement rates, click-through rates, and content reach
  • Coordinate with vendors, partners, and internal teams for promotional activities and special events
  • Maintain an organized archive of marketing assets and collateral
  • Provide administrative support for marketing projects as needed
  • Support VP of Community Engagement for all marketing requirements
  • Coordinate Goodwill tours with direction from VP of Community Engagement
  • Maintain calendar of events and marketing collateral
  • Work closely and coordinate with Public Relations Consultant Company
  • Ability to provide basic videography for both DGR and Mission Programs
  • Responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either orally or in writing

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1–2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or retail (nonprofit experience a plus)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, and basic website CMS
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
  • Passion for social impact, community service, or ethical retail

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven retail environment
  • Photography, videography, or graphic design skills
  • Knowledge of SEO and digital advertising
  • Ability to interface effectively and obtain cooperation across departments and at all levels
  • Proficient in using administrative software and tools
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong sense of ethics and integrity
