About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) reports to the Manager or Assistant Manager of Product Quality Control. This position participates in all activities in the Product Quality Control department to include but is not limited to: Supports Carter BloodCare’s (CBC) vision, mission and core values. Maintains compliance with CBC attendance policies and department schedules, as outlined in the CBC Employee Handbook. Performs testing and services associated with assigned departmental duties. These duties are in the scope of complexity according to accrediting agencies. Participates in competency, proficiency, and educational opportunities. Participates in educational instruction of students/employees and competency evaluations of employees. By accomplishing these duties, the MLS ensures that daily operations in the Product Quality Control laboratories meet and follow all established guidelines, provide excellence in service, and meet the needs of all customers. Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree, or related field.
  • MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification, required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory services experience, required.
  • Strong working knowledge of blood bank policies and procedures, required.
  • Detailed problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide instruction to customers based on problems presented.
  • Ability to concentrate and understand complex problems.
  • Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.
  • Extensive mathematical ability, including familiarity with laboratory mathematics and computers.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and ensure work is completed efficiently.
  • Strong customer service skills.
