The Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 64-bed, private-room unit with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit, and a Small Baby Unit. The team consists of our full-time neonatologists, nurse practitioners, residents, APP and physician fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, and consultants from multiple specialties delivering the most advanced care to premature and high-risk infants. The rounding approach is family-centered, and isolation facilities are available. Responsibilities include the management of premature and high-risk infants, bedside invasive and non-invasive monitoring, conventional and high-frequency ventilation, and surgery in multiple specialties, including cardiac and neurology. There is an opportunity to perform procedures such as intubation, thoracentesis, PICC, arterial and umbilical lines, as well as newborn resuscitation for all high-risk deliveries. Additional opportunities include assisting with the transport of critical infants and rotating to Level II nurseries in the OSF Health Care System. Shared governance opportunities are available within the scope of Safety, Quality Improvement, Education, and Focused Unit Based and Hospital Wide Committees.
