About the position

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager for Pulp and Utilities will supervise pulp and power manufacturing operations that include overseeing the Woodyard, Recovery, Utilities, and the Fiber departments, for the production of pulp, and specialty industrial and food grade papers. The qualified individual will manage various aspects of safety, operations and organizational design in the production of industrial specialty papers. Responsibilities also include managing cost effectiveness of operations, improving equipment reliability, improving process and product consistency and support of internal and external business relations with key customers.

Responsibilities

  • Must follow Ahlstrom's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position's areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
  • Manage multiple departments producing pulp.
  • Manage an operating budget of $30MM, a salaried staff of up to 13 direct reports and up to 100 union personnel to deliver on EBITDA goals.
  • Champion the Continuous Improvement process utilizing key CI tools as well as other improvement tools, such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to improve product quality and operating processes.
  • Deliver the safe and efficient production of the highest quality product at the lowest cost through employee engagement and the development and implementation of systems, and training and development of all personnel.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in paper manufacturing with pulping operations.
  • A minimum of 3 to 4 years as a Pulp Mill Business Unit or Area Manager.
  • Managerial experience in Pulp Manufacturing Operations that include Woodyard, Fiber, Recovery, and Utility departments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing departmental budgets, positively managing and developing direct reports to build organizational strength and developing process capabilities to enhance system capacity to achieve product development success.
  • Demonstrated results in quality improvement, customer satisfaction and process capability in a dynamic environment.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
