Under general supervision, the Marketing Coordinator supports the Parks and Recreation Department’s marketing and community engagement efforts by assisting in the development and execution of communication strategies. This role coordinates social media, digital and print marketing campaigns that promote programs, events and key initiatives. Applicants are required to submit a resume and cover letter.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Marketing and Community Engagement Program Manager to coordinate marketing and social media efforts across communication platforms.
  • Develops and implements marketing and communication strategies.
  • Contributes to master marketing and social media calendar.
  • Assists in developing policies, best practices and training efforts to guide and manage online and print communications across multiple platforms.
  • Develops and employs processes to track social media analytics and advertising reach.
  • Writes and edits newsletter articles, social media posts and video scripts about Parks and Recreation programs and initiatives.
  • Drafts content for website and social media sites; edits text, photos, navigation, and other elements.
  • Shoots and edits photographs and videos for website and social media sites.
  • Researches topics and conducts interviews to develop marketing campaigns.
  • Designs graphics for social media posts, advertisements, newsletters, and other materials.
  • Enforces and adheres to City brand standards and guidelines.
  • Participates in listing, prioritizing and scheduling marketing programs to achieve objectives.
  • Remains current on industry trends and activity and current programs related to public engagement.
  • Identifies specific objectives, target customer segments and plans for marketing campaigns.
  • Supports Parks and Recreation programs and community events through advanced promotion and onsite media coverage.
  • Tracks campaign and program performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in digital marketing, news writing or public relations in a similar position.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
  • Knowledge of journalistic professional standards for news writing, still photography, and video.
  • Knowledge of social media standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of principles of clear written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of media relations and community outreach principles.

  • Skill in writing engaging social media posts, articles, scripts, reports, advertisements, and marketing materials.
  • Skill in using social media and website analytics and assessing trends to effectively target audiences with key messages.
  • Skill in speech-making, presentations, and small-group and interpersonal communication.
  • Skill in researching and interviewing to collect accurate and relevant information for a story.
  • Skill in creating graphics using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva or similar programs.
  • Skill in using website content management platforms.
  • Skill in prioritizing, organizing, and completing a range of tasks or projects.
  • Skill in using still and video cameras and editing software such as Adobe Premier Pro or Photoshop.
  • Skill in using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create articles, reports, and presentations.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with City employees, vendors, and the public.
  • Skill in working effectively and efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Skill in reading and comprehending City policies, budgets, goals, and programs.
