About the position

Under the direct supervision of pharmacist, the pharmacy technician apprentice functions as a trainee and follows established policies and procedures to support functions essential to the operations of the pharmacy department. The pharmacy technician apprentice will gain knowledge in packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service, and maintain pharmacy records. The apprentice will successfully complete and receive a diploma in Pharmacy Technology from the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months. A caregiver in this role will work at Main Campus, Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely preparation of medications which may include selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
  • Accurate and timely delivery of medications to the appropriate storage locations.
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Documents regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner.
  • Demonstrates emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships.
  • Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings.
  • Shares responsibility for accomplishment of the team's tasks and goals.
  • Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintains good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program per the student handbook.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire.
  • Upon hire, registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
  • Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within 12 months.
  • Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months.
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
