We are seeking a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher for our Washingtonville Central School District classroom in our New Windsor location. Our Pre-K program offers four-year-olds an exciting opportunity to access top-notch pre-kindergarten education, setting them up for future school success. We seek someone creative, culturally aware, and skilled at solving problems to join our team. Our program emphasizes child-centered activities, building strong foundational skills in early literacy and numeracy, fostering social interactions, and preparing children for Kindergarten.

Responsibilities

  • Planned and implemented a developmentally appropriate program for PreK students that met UPK School District requirements.
  • Plan and teach well-developed, culturally responsive lessons.
  • Assess, track, and provide relevant and timely feedback on the achievement and developmental needs of students.
  • Use age-appropriate and positive guidance strategies to teach, encourage, and redirect inappropriate classroom behavior.
  • Build relationships with staff and families through positive and professional communication, create a welcoming environment, respect diversity, and encourage parent participation in the program.
  • Work collaboratively with teacher assistants.
  • Design the room layout for success using ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale).
  • Developing activities that promote literacy and math concepts – following the Creative Curriculum.
  • Participating in ongoing in-service and education development opportunities and participating in the ongoing development and evaluation of the program’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Current NYS teaching certificate valid for service in the early childhood grades.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience teaching preschool-age children.
  • To be qualified as a Pre-K teacher, a person must possess either: (a) New York State Certification Birth-Grade 2 OR (b) New York State Certification N-6 OR (c) New York State Certification P, K, 1-6 OR (d) Bachelor’s Degree & 5-Year Plan.
