Principal Software Development Engineer

About the position

Zscaler is looking for an experienced Principal Software Development Engineer to join our Engineering Team in San Jose, California. This role involves qualifying and expanding Zero Trust Branch hardware SKUs, designing and optimizing system infrastructure to support high-performance networking and security applications, and applying in-depth knowledge of Linux kernel internals to enhance platform performance and reliability. The successful candidate will develop and maintain high-speed data paths and utilize proficiency in C programming for Linux kernel development.

Responsibilities

• Qualifying and expanding Zero Trust Branch hardware SKUs
• Design and optimize system infrastructure to support high-performance networking and security applications
• Apply in-depth knowledge of Linux kernel internals, disk partitioning, file systems, and kernel networking features to evaluate and enhance platform performance and reliability
• Develop and maintain high-speed data paths, including kernel-space and user-space implementations such as VPP
• Utilize proficiency in C programming to contribute to Linux kernel development, employing tools like Git, Make, and other industry-standard utilities

Requirements

• Experience in qualifying hardware for high-performance data path
• Experience in system engineering, with a focus on designing and optimizing system infrastructure for high-performance networking and security applications
• In-depth knowledge of Linux kernel internals, disk partitioning, file systems, and kernel networking features and their impact on platform performance and reliability
• Experience with high-speed data paths, including kernel data path and user space data path like VPP
• 10+ years of software development/testing experience

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, etc.)
