Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems is offering an exciting opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer – X-Lab to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, located at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. Relocation assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and development of verification analysis tools
  • Coordinate, develop, and maintain analysis and test tracking tools
  • Ensure the proper backup and archiving of test products and analysis datasets
  • Develop and maintain analysis tools according to the requirements provided by test analysts, including Excel-based tools (utilizing VBA) and Java-based tools

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD, or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree
  • Current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to support business needs
  • Demonstrable skills in full-cycle software engineering of new capabilities
  • Basic Systems Engineering understanding to guide software design
  • Software development with Java
  • Object-Oriented development principles and patterns
  • Generate detailed and repeatable tests
  • Experience with the Linux environment
  • Experience with using and maintaining relational databases
  • Experience in the use of software testing and analysis tools
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills)
  • Understanding of Agile software development processes and principles

Nice-to-haves

  • Current and active in-scope DoD-issued TS/SCI clearance at time of application
  • Current DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher
  • Experience with other object-oriented software such as Python, C++/C#, Bash or similar scripting experience
  • Use of spreadsheets for data analysis and associated tools
  • Development of software test and analysis tools
  • Development and automation of data management processes and tools
  • Strong teamwork skills
