The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. The SQL Core Infrastructure team is responsible for the SQLDB back-end that serves the Azure SQLDB cloud platform. The current team is in search of experienced, deeply technical, systems candidates for the role of Principal Software Engineer. The opportunities and needs within SQL Core supported by this position are in the space of control plane, storage management, networking, resource governance, and platform/containerization. The individual will need to work across multiple sub teams within SQL Core Infrastructure and potentially across products that SQLDB relies on. The tech stack within the SQL infrastructure is large, very complex, and we are seeking an individual with sufficient experience to onboard relatively quickly, develop breadth and importantly depth in their area. The individual will spearhead crucial business initiatives, as well as be a subject matter expert that will be accountable and support their particular component/tech area. For these responsibilities, the individual is expected to be curious, independent, self-starting, and very detail oriented with high engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Experience in systems engineering.
  • Deep technical knowledge in SQLDB back-end.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-starting.
  • Detail-oriented with high engineering standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with control plane, storage management, networking, resource governance, and platform/containerization.
  • Familiarity with AI enabled operational databases.
