Our Product Design team is organized into a series of product pillars, where multiple teams contribute to the goals of a larger mission. This role sits on the Design System team within the Core Infrastructure pillar, which is a dedicated group of specialized designers and engineers defining foundational elements, components, and patterns to support designers and engineers. We support consumers of the system with feedback, guidelines, tooling and training. Our Design System team plays a crucial role in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and excellence across our product portfolio. Please note that this is a hybrid role that requires 3 days/week onsite in our Boston office. Fully remote candidates will not be considered at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of designers and collaborators focused on scaling our design system with an emphasis on consistency, aesthetic excellence, and overall experience quality
  • Define, evolve, and champion Klaviyo’s design language, ensuring that visual components reflect our brand, scale efficiently, and enhance the user experience
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product design, engineering, brand, and content, to integrate the design system into workflows and products
  • Maintain clear visual design standards, component libraries, and usage guidelines in Figma and related tools
  • Advocate for system adoption by communicating design strategy, vision, and milestones across teams and stakeholders
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity by aligning system components with WCAG standards and universal design principles
  • Inspire and influence a culture of craft, consistency, and attention to detail at every level of the design process

Requirements

  • Experience in visual or product design with a focus on building and scaling design systems in large product organizations
  • Experience with mentoring, coaching, or managing a high performing, inclusive, and diverse team
  • Demonstrable track record of crafting and successfully executing against a design system strategy with measurable impact
  • Ability to think big, but can also easily prioritize and break things into meaningful tasks, milestones and roadmaps
  • A portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design skills and a strong understanding of component-based design
  • Deep experience with Figma, component architecture, and system-level design implementation
  • Proven ability to balance aesthetic quality with functional utility and technical constraints
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design, including WCAG compliance
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - you can align stakeholders, present ideas clearly, and lead through influence
  • Strategic and systematic thinking - you can zoom out to identify patterns and zoom in to refine pixel-level details
