About the position

Security Benefit is searching for a Product Owner with proven experience to join our team. This position will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas, our Overland Park, Kansas or our Des Moines, IA office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the product manager to support the vision and roadmap of the derivatives platform and related systems.
  • Partner with trading, quant, operations, and technology teams to analyze business and financial data, extract key insights, and translate them into well-defined user stories and actionable requirements that align with both user needs and technical implementation.
  • Define and maintain a prioritized product backlog that balances business value, technical effort, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Work with the product engineering team to define hypotheses, run experiments, and analyze data to make decisions on features that influence the direction of the product.
  • Transform business requirements into features and action items for the software engineering teams.
  • Assist in validation of the engineering team's deliverable with product requirements based on the acceptance criteria before delivering to the business teams.
  • Involved in any product issues, troubleshooting of the problems to make sure product is delivered as per the business needs.
  • Develop, maintain complete documentation for all the computations, feature changes to provide a manual for the users and be responsible for other needed documents for the whole product.
  • Identify product dependencies, downstream impacts across the business unit and manage the delivery of the features.
  • Communicate effectively and build long-standing relationships with partners and product team members and use them to launch features successfully.

Requirements

  • 1-5 years of experience as Product owner, Product manager, Data Manager, or Analyst.
  • 1-3 years of experience in risk management, data analysis, investment analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with hands-on experience in Python, relational databases, and writing complex SQL queries for data extraction, analysis, and validation.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, be able to prioritize and decide.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple products initiatives with a sense of urgency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working towards CFA, FRM, or similar certification would be an asset.
  • Have a good understanding of derivative lifecycle, valuation, and risk management, to mentor staff.
  • Exposure to OTC and exchange-traded derivatives through formal course work and/or industry experience.
