The Roanoke Times is seeking a reporter to cover the city of Roanoke and regional politics in the Roanoke Valley. The reporter will be part of a team of journalists covering news stories that affect the Roanoke and New River valleys, including local government, education and residential and retail development. The city beat reporter covers Roanoke’s city council and school board, and takes a lead on covering major issues affecting the community, such as immigration, poverty and homelessness, and Roanoke’s burgeoning health care and biomedical research sectors. On politics, this reporter will take the lead in covering the region’s congressional and General Assembly delegations. Spanish language fluency is a plus. The job includes occasional night and weekend shifts. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle and be able to drive to assignments. Lee Enterprises is an equal opportunity employer.
