About the position

A registered professional critical care nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. Responsible for safely performing all forms of treatments and therapies that are done in the dialysis unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in the dialysis unit.
  • Perform treatments and therapies safely in the dialysis unit.
  • Familiarize with treatment modalities of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, apheresis, and continuous renal replacement therapy.
  • Assess for complications and outcomes of each dialysis modality.
  • Start, check, test, and troubleshoot fixed and portable R.O. water treatment systems.
  • Maintain ACLS and BLS certification.
  • Be available for on-call duties at least 2 times a week.
  • Work overtime as needed to ensure appropriate staffing and patient treatment.
  • Act as a resource for other units caring for patients with renal failure.
  • Travel to other units to access different types of dialysis catheters.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and new developments in nursing.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing applicable to areas requiring special education.
  • BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward.

Nice-to-haves

  • ICU or previous Dialysis experience.
