About the position
A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. The Emergency Nurse is responsible for providing age specific care through the assessment, nursing diagnosis, and treatment of perceived, actual or potential, sudden or urgent, physical or psychosocial problems that are primarily episodic or acute. Resolution may require minimal care or life-support measures, patient and family education, appropriate referral, and knowledge of legal implications. The emergency nurse must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct and/or indirect care of patients.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute or urgent health issues.
- Educate patients and families about health conditions and care plans.
- Interpret information to identify patient needs based on population-specific requirements.
- Adhere to unit policies and procedures in providing care.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
- Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills.
- Greater than 2 years nursing experience.
- De-escalation training.
- BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
- ACLS certification.
- PALS or ENPC certification.
Nice-to-haves
- TNCC or comparable education within 1 year.
- CEN highly recommended.
- One year emergency nursing highly recommended.
