About the position

This role sits within the broader Experience Design department which is made up of unique product design specialties including: Consumer, Merchant, Research, Content, Design Systems, and Operations. Experience Design is driving the design and experience strategy that will evolve the PayPal experience beyond the core transaction and into new realms of the end-to-end commerce journey. This includes dimensions that engage customers well before and after the point of a sales transaction with a brand or money exchange with a peer. It is an incredibly exciting time to join a design team that will be at the forefront of PayPal's product and brand transformation. No matter the role or level, all positions are nurtured and encouraged to think through critical problems with well-integrated, multi-discipline teams (pods) and a well-defined culture that's geared towards explorations, bold provocations, and speedy impact in the market. The department is led by PayPal's Chief Design Officer and works intimately with Engineering, Product Management, Brand Design, and Marketing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on the craft and design output for PayPal products.
  • Deliver strategically sound design solutions based on defined requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplined team.
  • Drive work to help the overall positioning and value propositions of the product.
  • Create experiential design audits and journey maps for end-to-end experiences.
  • Package design work into compelling presentations that outline problems, strategic points of view, market audits, design explorations, and prototypes.

Requirements

  • Possess exceptional fundamental craft within detailed UX flows, visual design, site mapping, feature definition, product states, architecture, and user interface design.
  • Strong awareness of interaction design, art direction, and culture trends.
  • Experience working on heavy product definition and concept design work.
  • Equally skilled at visual user interface design and interactive user experiences.
  • Proven ability to transform complexity into simple, functional, and value-driven product design experiences.
  • Ability to create clarity when a brief or problem is still undefined.

Nice-to-haves

  • A deep love and bias for designing products that blend interaction design with brand identities and content design.
  • Strong ability to think in system and scale terms.
