About the position

The Senior Research Associate (TPC) for The Urban Institute will report to our Washington, DC HQ location and may telecommute. The role involves participating in all aspects of the research center, including contributing to and writing research reports, conducting research both independently and as part of a team, organizing conferences and public forums, and communicating with the press and policymakers. The associate will also be responsible for writing grant proposals and assisting with the development and implementation of the strategic vision. This position provides intellectual leadership in project development and execution, mentors junior research staff, and identifies ways to advance the mission of educating the public, press, and policymakers about tax policy. Additionally, the associate will assist with the development of a business tax model and serve as an expert on corporate and international tax policy. The role requires articulating complex ideas or proposals on corporate and international tax policy into short, digestible briefs and reports, presenting papers, and participating in public events discussing tax issues. The associate will also identify new funding sources and partnership opportunities, and communicate with policy experts and decision makers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Economics or related field with 5 years of relevant policy research experience
  • Master's in Economics or related field with 2 years of relevant policy research experience
  • PhD in Economics or related field
  • Researching US and international tax law and policy
  • Applying public finance and corporate tax policy
  • Writing technical research papers and communicating to nontechnical audiences
  • Applied micro-economics
  • Economic methods
  • At least one of the following: microsimulation modeling or programming (Strata, R, Python, or Fortran)

  • Salary range of $115,550 to $180,000 per year
