About the position

At Zillow Group, our mission is to empower people to unlock life's next chapter. We're currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Big Data to join the Analytics Tooling team! This team owns and manages the tools and processes that support customer oriented, data-driven decision making. We build and manage innovative tools for the cross-functional data community, needed for data driven decision making with a focus on deriving faster insights and enabling easy access to data. As a part of the Analytics Tooling team, you will engage with internal customers to build tools and establish processes that define how we do analytics at Zillow. The role involves working on the following: ROBBIE (A greenfield LLM co-pilot on top of Zillow’s lakehouse to enable text to sql analytics at Zillow), Semantic Layer (A config driven framework to centralize logic for business metrics), Product Analytics (Currently using Amplitude), Business Intelligence Tooling (Tableau, Databricks dashboards) for reporting and dashboarding.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the architecture, implementation, and operations of tools and processes for gaining insights from Terabytes of data.
  • Collaborate with analysts, product managers, data scientists, data engineers to understand their analytical needs and drive technical solutions.
  • Apply devops approach to continuously drive value for our end users while balancing support burden.
  • Research and pioneer the adoption and use of new technologies within Zillow.
  • Drive process improvements that affect hundreds of internal Zillow users.

Requirements

  • A degree (BS+) in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with building and maintaining pipelines/applications in the data engineering space.
  • Strong background in Java or Python.
  • Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Flink, Kafka, Airflow, Databricks).
  • Experience with LLM and prompt engineering.
  • History of leading projects independently at scale (company/org wide).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and passionate about collaborating across organizational boundaries.

Nice-to-haves

  • Passionate about data, analytics, and distributed systems.
  • Experience working with cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Experience with Product analytics tools such as Amplitude, MixPanel, or BI Tools such as Tableau, Mode, Thoughtspot, Metabase, etc.
  • Collaboration across the company - needs to be able to partner with many different teams.
