About the position

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to work on the development of our sophisticated Internet scanning platforms within the Attack Surface Intelligence group, on the Threat Research and Active Collection of Exposures (TRACE) team and Scan Infrastructure and Automation sub-team. The ideal candidate will have experience in large technical projects, serving as an individual contributor. This position requires great communication skills to coordinate with principal engineers, senior engineers, and DevOps teams for iterative development and deployment of updates.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize new and existing components of our scalable Internet scanning platform with a global reach.
  • Work on the development of automations for some of our more manual scan platform and operations tasks, and work with the Support Team to streamline manual tickets.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of new features and updates.
  • Regularly communicate project status, challenges, and insights to the principal engineer and your manager.
  • Participate in technical discussions and initiatives aimed at improving our scanning technologies and processes.

Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of experience in software engineering or automation, ideally in an Enterprise SaaS product, traditional engineering context, or a Cybersecurity/Computer Networking vendor.
  • Development experience in Python or Go. Additional familiarity with Rust, Elixir, and/or PHP is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as message busses/queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, etc.), containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), version control systems (Git, Github), and using CLI tools.
  • A built-in desire to monitor systems you build and maintain, build dashboards, view and analyze logs for alerting, and compile metrics for improving performance.
  • Familiarity with the TCP/IP protocol stack, including application of concepts from HTTP, DNS, WHOIS, and other artifacts needed for technical reconnaissance and discovery.
  • Solid understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work/education experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts.
  • Strong English language skills are a must.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ideal candidates will have done engineering work in a low-level, network-heavy application with a focus on high-volume traffic and availability.
  • Any familiarity with working in or building on top of AWS, Azure, GCP, or other cloud-native services.
  • Any familiarity with cybersecurity principles and the unique challenges of developing cybersecurity products.
  • Any familiarity with things like web crawling, API automation, portscanning, vulnerability scanning, or signature development.
  • Experience building and deploying Internet scanning, web crawling, or similar platforms.
  • Any familiarity with enterprise security products related to Recorded Future’s offerings.
