About the position
The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer for the Product Development (PD) Business Systems organization within Vehicle Engineering & Quality IT (VEQ) is responsible for developing software applications that support the Vehicle Timing business process. The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable working with applications that involve complex data requirements and will provide solutions using proven, industry-standard methodologies. You will be directly involved in writing software or solutions based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Additionally, you will oversee development activities to ensure delivery of world-class capabilities aligned with GM’s corporate and business objectives for a greenfield application. This role offers the opportunity to advise, coach, and mentor software engineers, while making a significant impact on this new application and helping to develop junior software engineers.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates success in software project delivery experience in leading technical efforts developing applications using a variety of tools, languages, frameworks and technologies.
- Demonstrate mastery of many programming languages, tools and/or technologies.
- Performance tuning, usability assessment/improvement.
- Aggressively engage in the identification/remediation of software issues related to code or solutions quality, security, and/or pattern/frameworks and software usability or end user related issues.
- Integrate software with existing software/systems.
- Automates unit/end-to-end testing of software systems within their domain, focused on software quality and maintainability.
- Provides guidance and mentoring of fellow software developers and other team members.
- Understand and maintain compliance with GM standards and industry standard methodology.
- Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors.
- Models GM behaviors and builds a winning culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- 5+ years experience delivering full stack application development using Java/ JEE and Angular or React.
- 3+ years experience in Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- 3+ years experience working with complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures.
- 3+ years experience working in a SCRUM development methodology.
- 3+ years experience in languages such as SQL and Python and big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark).
- Possess technical writing knowledge around system design specification and user documentation of software systems and ensure that technical documentation meets GM standards.
