Data is essential to the success of Airbnb and the use of derived data is increasing throughout Airbnb’s product surfaces. The Data Frameworks team is a part of the Users, Listings and Platforms org which is responsible for all things related to Users and Listings data and creating the platforms on which we build the next-generation applications at Airbnb. The team’s main mission is bridging the gap between online and offline data use cases for the company. Our job is to build world-class comprehensive application frameworks, services and platforms to easily transform and serve data to the application stack.

Responsibilities

  • Work at the intersection of online and offline data, storage layers and stream processing.
  • Write maintainable and self-documenting code, and perform code reviews.
  • Design, build systems that power product engineers.
  • Continuously optimize and improve the performance and reliability of existing systems.
  • Collaborate with team members and establish close partnerships with other technical organizations at Airbnb.
  • Provide training, documentation, and coaching to other engineering teams on how best to utilize our platform solutions.
  • Mentor and support other engineers in the team and related teams.

Requirements

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in the industry.
  • Proficient with batch & real-time data processing technologies like Flink, Spark.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka and building services for Kafka.
  • Experience in building high-performance, data-intensive distributed systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on experience with GraphQL-based API design (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Elasticsearch is a plus.
