In Applied Sensing and Health (AS&H), we develop real time algorithms fusing different sensing modalities to infer impactful metrics, detect meaningful events or project enlightening insights, that we present to our users in the clearest and most beautiful way. Fall and Crash detection, features that are saving lives of Apple Watch and iPhone users across the planet... Our sensing-based features are designed close to the silicon and firmware layers, and span across many platforms. We deliver end to end experiences in health and wellbeing, that require full stack systems software expertise from sensing and algorithms to the user interface. Our software supports the design of data collection and prototyping apps to drive forward the science and development of sensing-based metrics like VO2max, crash detection and more. Responsibilities
- Architecting, implementing and maintaining user experiences across platforms for the features we deliver to the world.
- Work closely with scientists, engineers, QA, study and project managers throughout the software lifecycle.
- Design and contribute to APIs to help expose our metrics to third party developers or internal cross functional teams.
- Collaborate on large projects with many other software engineers and functions, like human design, hardware sensing, AI/ML and others.
- Ship interactive features that impact millions of users on a daily basis.
- Demonstrate creativity, initiative, and the ability to work to deadlines.
- Build strong relationships and constantly look to improve yourself and your team.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science.
- At least 10 years of experience as a software engineer.
- 5 years in a technical leadership role.
- Extensive experience with programming languages such as C++, Objective-C, Swift or SwiftUI.
Nice-to-haves
- Strong and intuitive understanding of computer science fundamentals, and how to architect complex systems for embedded devices.
- Effective communication skills, written and verbal, and attention to detail.
- Prior experience in machine learning (e.g. large language models, foundation models, CNNs, Bayesian methods, etc.).
- Passion or experience with mentoring other team members.
- Passion for product definition, user experience, and being the first user for your own features.
- Prior experience with sensors, sensor fusion, fitness and health technologies.
