About the position

Amazon Advertising builds and manages systems with high performance and availability. We serve and respond to hundreds of billions of requests annually, and have ambitions to grow that number several orders of magnitude, while maintaining response latencies in the milliseconds and meeting strict SLA requirements. We delight in data, and are constantly trying to enrich our models and make more informed decisions using every bit and byte we have. This role is in our bidding data and analytics team. We operate at scale, making sense of terabytes of hourly data. Our data outputs power multiple critical parts of the Advertising business, and we operate with high-availability principles. We're at a point of rapid change, both for our business and our architecture, bringing numerous opportunities for strategic and design-level thinking. We seek to leverage industry standards (OpenRTB, VAST, Native, etc) when suitable, and define new standards when appropriate to help the ad tech industry evolve and improve.

Responsibilities

  • Design, Develop, Implement greenfield real time Systems from the ground up
  • Champion team processes using software development best practices
  • Propose innovative tools, frameworks, automations and processes for maintaining the system performance standards
  • Write clean, maintainable code and perform peer code-reviews. Drive improvements to the code review process. (CDK, Java, Rust, Python)
  • Deep-dive into client or server systems to optimize for performance, maintainability, scalability, extensibility as needed.
  • Assist in the career development of others by actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.
  • Utilize deep knowledge of tech fundamentals to build things that can operate at AWS-stressing scale.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
