About the position

APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Collect and analyze performance, thermals, acoustics and power data on Mac and competitor HW/SW. Uncover problem areas, perform root cause analysis and analyze competitors to identify areas of potential optimizations. Drive optimizations by collaborating and presenting findings to cross-functional teams, including senior management. Define and develop automated tests and testing infrastructure for different operating systems and hardware using various programming and scripting languages as needed. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 - $214,500/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze performance, thermals, acoustics and power data on Mac and competitor HW/SW.
  • Uncover problem areas and perform root cause analysis.
  • Analyze competitors to identify areas of potential optimizations.
  • Drive optimizations by collaborating and presenting findings to cross-functional teams, including senior management.
  • Define and develop automated tests and testing infrastructure for different operating systems and hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering (any) or related field.
  • Understanding of OS architecture to improve system application run time and performance.
  • Using Python, Java, C++, Swift or Javascript, developing and implementing thorough test plans.
  • Identifying areas for optimization across different programming stacks.
  • Analyzing CPU and GPU performance of Mac and Windows PCs.
  • Using debugging tools such as XCode, HWInfo, NVIDIA NSight, Intel VTune, or Google Chrome Developer Tools.
  • Reducing storage footprint and memory pressure of software applications using debugging tools and IDEs: PyCharm, Xcode, HWInfo, top, or vm_stat.
  • Programming, shell scripting, version control systems, object-oriented methodology and relevant tools/scripting languages.
  • Setting up test systems for various testing across performance, acoustic, power and thermals, including use of various equipment: network switches, cabling, thermocouples, light meters, power meters, and rack management.
  • Knowledge of the computer HW and SW landscape and knowledge of the latest technological innovations in processor, graphics, memory, storage, display, design, and features.
