About the position

BAE Systems is seeking Software engineer and data analyst to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. The candidate should have experience with the Navy’s Strategic Weapons System (SWS), supply support of these weapon systems and the Systems used to support the procurement and management of the parts support. The candidate should have development experience and a strong background in database management systems. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail. They should have experience working and collaborating in a team environment with a common goal to sustain and enhance a production Information Technology system. This position is responsible for sustainment and continuous improvement of the Strategic Weapons System Logistics Data Warehouse (SWS-LDW) application. The candidate will work with a team of software engineers and functional subject matter experts to ensure the application’s infrastructure is sized and available to meet current and potential future needs of the application’s users at BAE, NAVSUP WSS, SSP and hundreds of users at multiple government and contractor organizations. This will include development activities, changes to existing business intelligence reports, workflow creation and changes, extract, transform, load analysis and changes, and exploration of new capabilities the application can offer. The candidate will be required to work with and assist other parts of BAE’s SSP department to ensure overall support of the Trident and UK ballistic missile submarine fleet and associated programs. The candidate will learn all existing processes and disciplines while remaining up to date of industry practices, trends, and applications. The candidate will support other departments as needed and undergo a limited amount of travel to off-site locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or mathematics, Information systems, Management or related fields.
  • 6 years or more of professional IT work experience or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to lead efforts and work with a team of technology professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse work teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience with modern IT development tools and coding languages.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and other productivity tools.
  • Knowledge of and experience with database management tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn business operations of a complex logistics software enterprise.
  • Familiarity with SQL and database scripting languages such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, or SQL plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree in any technical or business-related field.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Knowledge of, skills in and experience using extract, transform, load (ETL) software programs, preferably Informatica Power Center.
  • Experience using BI Software, preferably Oracle Analytics Server (OAS).
  • Experience using Relational Database Management Systems, preferably Oracle.
  • Writing skills adequate to clearly document software changes and generate work instructions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to interface with government representatives and internal departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new and emerging software development tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards for software quality and auditing.
  • Experience with data warehousing.
  • Knowledge and experience with US Navy Submarine Logistics.
  • Ability to gather and translate user requirements, analyze complex business requirements, develop automated solutions.
