About the position

Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, we have produced devices like Fire tablets, Echo Frames, Echo Buds and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create? Work hard. Have fun. Make history. As a Battery System Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive, and design innovative consumer product. You will work closely with an internal interdisciplinary team, and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition and execution. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and verify Li-ion battery system per performance and safety requirements
  • Validate battery management systems including protection ICs, Chargers, and Fuel gauge
  • Drive battery development and validation for NPI programs
  • Execute battery safety and reliability tests
  • Create battery specifications
  • Work with System and Product Design teams to define capacity/ mechanical outline
  • Test and qualify new battery packs and second source battery packs
  • Support factory and field issues related to battery. Conduct failure analysis on RMA batteries
  • Work with Compliance on battery certification, including CTIA/IEEE172

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree with EE technical focus or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in HW validation/test
  • Experience with Li-Polymer battery validation
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment (multimeters, power supplies, loads, oscilloscopes, data acquisition units)
  • Familiarity with Python, Matlab or other programming / scripting language

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science
  • 7+ years of experience with battery or battery-powered product validation
  • Experience with testing and qualifying battery packs
  • Understanding of basic circuit design
  • Familiarity with communication protocols – SPI, UART, I2C, Ethernet
  • Familiarity with Android / ADB / Linux
  • Familiarity with FW charge control architectures
