About the position

Uber Freight is seeking a Senior Product Designer to drive strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product, data science, engineering, and operations, to shape the design vision and deliver innovative, high-quality user experiences. The role involves leading complex initiatives that influence product strategy and ensuring alignment across teams. The designer will oversee comprehensive user research initiatives, mentor junior researchers and designers, and communicate design concepts effectively across varying fidelities. Responsibilities also include developing sophisticated wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs, leading design workshops, and advocating for design integrity during development. The position requires a strong partnership with product leadership to define and prioritize the product roadmap and drive the evolution of the design system.

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams to shape the design vision.
  • Lead complex initiatives that influence product strategy and ensure alignment across teams.
  • Oversee comprehensive user research initiatives and synthesize insights to inform product strategy.
  • Mentor junior researchers and designers in research methodologies.
  • Communicate design concepts and strategic decisions across varying fidelities.

  • Develop sophisticated wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Lead and facilitate high-impact design workshops and critiques.
  • Mentor peers in effective facilitation techniques.
  • Cultivate a collaborative environment by giving and soliciting constructive feedback.
  • Act as a design quality champion and set standards for best practices.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to ensure seamless translation of design concepts.
  • Advocate for design integrity during development.
  • Partner with product leadership to define and prioritize the product roadmap.
  • Drive the evolution of the design system and guide its consistent application.
  • Present complex design concepts to senior leadership.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers.
  • Lead design reviews and offer constructive feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Human Computer Interaction, Art, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Portfolio showcasing a diverse range of product design work, including at least one mobile application and two web-based applications.
  • 4 years of design experience in digital products, user interfaces, or graphic/visual design.
  • 3 years of experience creating designs that align with product objectives and drive key business metrics.
  • 3 years of combined experience in interaction design and visual design.
  • 3 years of experience prototyping in Figma or Principle.
  • 3 years of experience with Keynote, Google Slides, or Power Point.
  • 3 years of experience delivering visually compelling presentations.
  • 3 years of experience utilizing prototypes to illustrate user flows and interactions.
  • 3 years of experience in visual design key areas: typography, color theory, UI design, layout, and iconography.
  • 2 years of experience designing a complex web application related to transportation management or logistics.
  • 2 years of combined experience thinking through intricate workflows and interconnected systems.
  • 2 years of experience identifying opportunities for user and business improvement.
  • 2 years of experience communicating design concepts clearly and persuasively.
  • 2 years of experience in design quality assurance.
  • 2 years of experience leading user experience research sessions.
  • 1 year of experience facilitating design and product ideation workshops.
  • 1 year of experience mentoring junior product designers.
