Staff Software Backend Engineer

About the position

The Developer platform team is part of Coupang’s Technical Infrastructure organization and is responsible for Coupang’s developer experiences including Coupang’s internal workload management and microservice ecosystem which scales to thousands of microservices. We are in a process to revolutionize our developer experiences and internal infrastructure by adopting the best technologies available. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to scale our Code Gen infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Shape the future of our Developer Experience strategy
• Increase developer productivity by analyzing, designing, and implementing innovative development processes
• Develop and optimize data pipelines and infrastructure to support machine learning workflows, including large language models (LLMs)
• Decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions, providing mechanisms for the teams to prioritize ruthlessly and 'move with urgency'
• Solve real customer pain points by applying a deep understanding of system performance, reliability, and developer experience
• Collaborate with other Coupang tech leaders to make the service extensible to unlock opportunities for innovations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical fields
• 6+ years professional software development experience, or 4 years’ experience with advanced degree
• Hands-on experience in designing and developing large scale distributed system in the last 3 years
• Fluent in one or more among C++, Java, Go, Javascript and Typescript
• Proven track record of delivering mission critical systems
• Experience with cloud computing using AWS or Azure or GCP

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience with large scale ML infrastructure
• Strong understanding of developer productivity tools, framework optimizations, and service quality metrics
• Extensive experience in designing complex backend systems
• Experience in Kubernetes, gRPC, Spring boot
• Experience in concurrency, multi-threading, synchronization, and non-blocking IO
• Ability to challenge the existing norms to improve overall systems and processes
