About the position

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with a solid background in Java and AWS, to lead and contribute to the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems. You will play a key role in architecting solutions, mentoring engineers, and driving technical excellence across our cloud-native platforms. This is a hybrid role based in the Bay Area, offering flexibility while ensuring close collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high-performance risk analytics services, engines and software infrastructure using Java and AWS cloud services
  • Lead technical design and architecture discussions across multiple systems and teams
  • Champion engineering best practices including CI/CD, monitoring, testing, and code quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business-critical features and services
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Own the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical production systems
  • Contribute to long-term technical vision and roadmap aligned with product strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Computer Science or related fields with 8 or more years of industry experience, or Ph.D. Degree with 5 years of industry experience
  • Strong skills in analytic computing and algorithms
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven systems
  • Solid experience in AWS ecosystem (EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, AWS Batch, DynamoDB, CloudFormation/CDK, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to convey complex ideas to others in a concise and clear manner

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in architecting cloud-native applications and distributed systems
  • Experience developing complex software systems that have successfully been delivered to customers
  • Experience with data access and computing in highly distributed cloud systems
  • Exposure to Generative AI (GenAI) concepts or integration of GenAI into software products
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers or software developers in all aspects of their engineering duties
  • Prior experience in fintech, insurance, or data-intensive domains
