About the position

PlayStation's Game Development & Future Technology (GDFT) group is transforming our console DNA into a low-latency cloud platform, streaming immersive worlds to every screen from TVs, handhelds, and devices we haven't invented yet. Responsibilities

  • Design & write software for Linux servers and embedded hardware.
  • Program in Rust / C++, land production ready code, and unblock teammates with targeted spikes and reviews.
  • Forge alignment across teams and stakeholders.
  • Champion innovation within the team to inspire creative solutions to problems.
  • Architect solutions and then roll up your sleeves to code, unblock teammates, and/or jump-start critical projects whenever needed.
  • Work in a small Agile team; planning, reviewing, and demoing each sprint.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science / Software Engineering.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including recent hands-on coding.
  • Expertise in Rust (or a willingness to learn it) and/or modern C++, with the ability to drop to C for low-level work if needed.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux and/or BSD internals.
  • Comfort developing, deploying and operating containerized services on Kubernetes at scale.
  • Experience developing Kubernetes operators is desirable.
  • Detective-level debugging skills and being able to communicate with SREs to chase down issues.
  • Ability to develop with observability in mind.
  • A track record of technical leadership guiding teams without hard authority.
  • Exceptional communication skills, you toggle effortlessly between white-boarding with engineers to summarizing trade-offs for leadership.
  • Excitement for open-ended problems, turning fuzzy ideas into solutions.
  • Curiosity on emerging tech, including AI dev tools and introducing those that are pragmatic and boost developer velocity.
