R&D Development Director (Supply Chain)
The R&D Development Director (Supply Chain) will establish strategic relations with technology suppliers to create value to develop products in support of strategic initiatives and growth targets.
He/she will direct or coordinate 3rd party technology development, transfer and integration into production. In this role the director will design products that integrate new product platforms and process with new supply chains to ensure maximum profitability while reducing time-to-market by managing core supply chain processes-plan, procure, manufacture and deliver
In addition he/she will examine existing procedures and will identify opportunities for streamlining activities and will implement methods to increase productivity and quality while reducing costs.
Responsibilities
Product Development 60%
* Design or implement supply chains that support business strategies adapted to new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies.
* Plan, organize and oversee process or production trials. Formulate new processes to scale up production. Liaise with 3rd party development facilities, engineering, research, and technical and/or production staff.
* Establish supply chain models to support product development efforts. Document physical supply chain processes, such as workflows, cycle times, position responsibilities, or system flows, including value chain analysis.
* Coordinate with relevant functional areas to generate product specifications.
* Work with sales to develop sales and operations plans and forecasts.
* Develop or implement procedures or systems to evaluate or select technology suppliers.
* Participate in the coordination of engineering changes, product line extensions, or new product launches to ensure orderly and timely transitions in material or production flow.
Manufacturing Support 30%
* Examine existing procedures identify opportunities for streamlining activities. Implement methods to increase productivity and quality while reducing costs.
* Evaluate vendor manufacturing ability through on-site visits and measurements.
* Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, engineering, and quality assurance, to identify or qualify new suppliers.
* Coordinate activities related to strategic or tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, warehousing, or receiving.
Industry/ 3rd party liaison 10%
* Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers.
* Maintain a close working relationship with all relevant industry technical groups, universities, technology startups, etc.
