And we do it all with heart, each and every day. We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Technical API Documentation Writer to join our team. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical documentation and product ownership. You will spend 50% of your time crafting clear, concise, and developer-friendly API documentation for our Developer Portal, and the other 50% acting as a Product Owner for our API team-driving product strategy, managing backlogs, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality API experiences.
Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and maintain comprehensive API documentation, including reference guides, tutorials, and integration examples.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, and UX designers to understand technical requirements and translate them into user-friendly content.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with the latest API releases.
- Own the structure and usability of the Developer Portal, continuously improving the developer experience.
- Create content standards and style guides for API documentation.
- Serve as the Product Owner for the API team, managing the product backlog and prioritizing features based on business and developer needs.
- Define and communicate the product vision and roadmap for internal and external APIs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, QA, marketing, and customer support.
- Gather and analyze feedback from stakeholders and users to inform product decisions.
- Lead sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives in an Agile environment.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in a product owner or product management role.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, OAuth, and developer workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, Markdown, and static site generators.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps.
Nice-to-haves
- 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably with a focus on APIs or developer tools.
- Background in software development or computer science.
- Experience working with API gateways, SDKs, or API management platforms.
- Knowledge of analytics tools to measure documentation usage and effectiveness.
