About the position

Come join Walmart's Campus Technology team and help power the world's most user-friendly campus. We're bridging the gap between the physical and digital campus experience by giving associates intuitive ways to find and interact with people, places, and resources that make their workday better and more productive. We’re looking for a talented, all-rounder Principal, Software Engineer to join our Bentonville, Arkansas-based team. You’ll help architect and deliver solutions across web and mobile platforms, supporting internal tools that directly impact Walmart associates. The ideal candidate has deep experience in solution design, mobile app development and deployment, system integrations, and cloud platforms. But more than that — you’re someone who thrives on innovation, rapid iteration, and mentoring others to build great solutions for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design modular, extensible mobile and web architectures that scale including AI-Powered features and user-facing agents.
  • Lead solution delivery from concept through deployment including writing production code alongside the team.
  • Guide a team of engineers through technical instruction, support, and mentorship.
  • Define and manage engineering standards and architectural guardrails for long-term success.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, platform engineers, UX designers, and stakeholders.
  • Continuously identify and implement ways to modernize and improve how we build.
  • Scale our tools, systems, and team practices to meet growing product demand.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years designing scalable mobile and web apps (mono-repos, container apps, mini-app structures, and app deployment methodologies).
  • Hands-on experience with microservices, API design, telemetry, observability, automated CI/CD, and test suites.
  • Proficiency in full stack development with an emphasis on mobile development: ReactNative, iOS/Swift, Java, Javascript, React, Spring Boot, Node.js, and Angular.
  • Strong architectural instincts and a track record of translating complex needs into practical solutions.
  • Experience leading technical delivery without direct people management — mentoring, reviewing, unblocking, and being a force multiplier for the team.
  • Collaborative spirit and communication skills that bring cross-functional teams together.
  • A bias for action, fast iteration, and continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

  • Paid maternity and parental leave
  • PTO
